Setting this Param to the non-default value of false will force the Task systemd-timesyncd to NOT set the Hardware Clock from the NTP synchronized system time.

By default (true), the Hardware Clock will be set to the system NTP synchronized time after the systemd-timesyncd service is started and run. This will help ensure the hardware clock is set as close to NTP time source as is possible to preserve the closest possible Time Clock value across reboots.

Note that if there is a long period of time between reboots and subsequent NTP clock synchronization, it is possible that the Hardware Clock may drift and still be inaccurate.

The systemd-timesyncd task utilizes the following command line to do this:

  • hwclock --systohc
